Resilience is usually definedas the capacity of an ecosystem to absorb disturbance without shifting to an alternative state and losing function and services. A study published in the journal Nature found that ecosystems that have a greater number of species are more likely to be resistant to extremely wet or dry conditions. A 2015 studyshowed that diverse communities are more stable because they exhibit resistance during extreme climate events.”

To ensure that the headlands are resistant to the expected changes from climate change, a high-diversity of species will be planted to enhance resilience:  grasslands, coastal prairies, and scrub.
