The Pacifica Land Trust would like to invite the public to Escape to the Headlands (the Pedro Point Headlands that is!) on Sunday, November 26th from 10am to 2.00pm.
Kick off the holiday season with a gratitude hike, plenty of merriment and special treats for the kids! Enjoy fresh air, get outside in nature, escape the shopping, the hustle and bustle, experience this unique coastal habitat, create family/friend memories and just be outside in a beautiful place very close to home!
Escape to the Headlandsis FREE, a wonderful opportunity to discover a beautiful place in our backyard and to take a hike or just hang out near the staging area to enjoy the outdoors. From a gentle sloped half to one mile to a steep inclined one mile or even a great 4 -6 mile hike that includes the connected Devils Slide trail there is hiking for all ages and skill. Unfortunately heavy rain will cancel the event.
This MERRY event will include hot cider, snacks, and cheer along with opportunities to learn about the natural habitat as you take your walk. In addition, if you want to get your hands in the dirt there will be restoration stations where you can plant native seeds, pull invasive grass, sow a cover crop, or even plant grasses/natives to restore grassland. It just might make the best memories of the Holiday season!
Sign in at the Castle Kitchen and Bath parking lot, at 520 San Pedro Ave, Pacifica anytimebetween 10am and 1.00pm. You will be safely transported to and from the Pedro Point Headlands staging area to begin your adventure. Return when you are ready but no later than 2pm. Long sleeve shirts, pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. Hiking sticks, sunglasses, binoculars and cameras may be appreciated.
Hiking to some of the bluffs for the spectacular views of the ocean, Devils Slide, Shelter Cove and beyond can be quite rigorous but usually considered well worth it.
The Pedro Point Headlands stewardship program and this event are brought to you by the Pacifica Land Trust and supported by the Pedro Point Community Association. The work on the 250 acres of wildlife habitat is being transformed from a hodgepodge of unsustainable old motorcycle trails to safer and erosion-controlling paths with generous grants from the County of San Mateo’s Measure A funds and the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVR) Division Program, along with the partnerships with the City of Pacifica and the California Coastal Conservancy.
